Galicia, Golf and Wellbeing: A New Professional Adventure Begins

After dedicating numerous years to the international golf tourism sector across Spain’s most distinguished regions, from Cádiz to Galicia, Asturias to Madrid, I’ve come to understand that not every significant decision in this industry requires extensive data analysis and market forecasts. Sometimes, the most impactful choices emerge from a profound sense of timing, well-honed intuition, and that quiet inner voice that simply affirms, This is precisely where I need to be.

My journey through the golf tourism landscape began in Germany and later expanded to several prestigious Spanish destinations, including Barceló Costa Ballena, the renowned Montecastillo resort, and an exceptional property in Benalup. These formative experiences equipped me with comprehensive knowledge of international markets, a deep understanding of discerning client expectations, and the professional standards that continue to guide my approach today. Each destination taught me something invaluable about what truly resonates with golf travellers—and what transforms a good experience into an unforgettable one.

A Different Kind of Move

This new chapter unfolding in Galicia represents considerably more than a conventional career transition. It’s a decision that harmonises professional aspirations with personal principles in a way I haven’t encountered in my career. Last July, I travelled to Galicia for what was initially scheduled as a routine site inspection. I spent two memorable nights at Iberik Guitiriz Golf & Balneario, followed by an evening at Iberik Augas Santas Balneario & Golf in Monforte de Lemos. What I discovered there transcended mere facilities and amenities.

I found something far more valuable: a sense of tranquillity, authentically inspiring people, and landscapes so remarkably verdant and breathtaking that they continued to occupy my thoughts long after I’d returned home. There’s something about Galicia’s rolling green fairways set against dramatic coastal backdrops and ancient forests that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere in Spain. The region possesses a distinctive character—simultaneously rugged and refined, traditional yet forward-thinking.

The Right Moment

Naturally, this decision impacts my family considerably, and working away from home presents challenges that shouldn’t be underestimated. However, at 46, with the professional foundation I’ve carefully constructed and the network of contacts I’ve cultivated across international markets, I genuinely believe this is the optimal moment to embrace this opportunity. I’m accepting this challenge because I’m bringing relevant experience, well-established industry relationships, and the confidence to build something genuinely meaningful and lasting.

Certainly, there’s an element of risk involved—there always is when venturing into new territory. But when substantial experience and proven expertise underpin a project, that risk transforms from a daunting leap into the unknown into a calculated and favourable strategic decision. Galicia’s golf tourism potential remains relatively untapped compared to more saturated markets, and therein lies the opportunity that makes this move not just timely, but essential.

Why Galicia? Why Now?

Galicia is an emerging destination for international golf and lifestyle tourism with enormous untapped potential. The region offers something genuinely different from the crowded southern coastal resorts: space, authenticity and natural beauty.
From June onwards, I’ll be physically based in Galicia, representing Iberik Hotels in Guitiriz and Monforte de Lemos. The primary season runs from May to September, positioning Galicia as a fresh, green summer golf destination when other regions are dealing with intense heat.

But there’s much more to this region than golf. The Ribeira Sacra offers spectacular landscapes, outstanding gastronomy, a rich wine culture, and unique experiences, such as catamaran routes along the Sil River. Footgolf is developing strongly here and complements the existing golf infrastructure beautifully. Active tourism, cycling routes, and hiking trails represent growing international markets, with dedicated tour operators and specialised trade fairs.

Looking Forward

This move combines everything I value: professional challenge, personal growth and the opportunity to contribute to something with real potential. I’m excited to share this journey and to help introduce international travellers to what Galicia has to offer.

Here’s to new beginnings, calculated risks and following that quiet inner voice when it tells you the time is right..
